If you've never been to an authentic New York deli you are in for a treat. I generally go on off hours because it is always packed. The menu is so diverse you could spend the afternoon reading. A real specialty is the sauted Chicken livers with lots of onions and brown gravy. It is to die for and available nowhere else. BEWARE!!. I am a pretty big eater and I can't remember ever finishing a plate here and the food is tremendous.

Great place! The menu offered something for everyone and the food was good. Our waiter was very good . Would go back. Great find in this area.

The size of the sandwiches aren't worth the almost $9. However it does come with a small thing of cole slaw and a pickle. I got the Italiano, the roll it came on wasn't a real kaiser roll, more like those pre packaged hamburger rolls. We got ours to go and they put the dressing on the side which was nice. One sandwich I asked for was Turkey with lettuce and tomato, by the time I got home and opened it, there was only Turkey on it. Really? The guy who took our order seemed really annoyed with us. I didn't even want to ask for anything. He also didn't ask if we wanted anything else before adding up our to-go bill, and he didn't even ask if everything was together when 2 of us ordered, and I told him I was ordering 2 sandwiches myself. Checking in on foursquare said we get a free Black and White cookie, he gave us the bite size ones... 3. Which I guess was okay since we ordered 3 sandwiches, but I wonder what it would have been if I only ordered 1. (I wasn't such a big fan however of the taste.) We got fountain drinks and they came in huge to go cups which was actually nice. I was surprised that you could actually sit and order.

Current health inspection: 2 Critical violations for dishwashing facilities & toilet and hand washing. My server was Patrick and I ordered the brisket dip. It comes w/fries but many people do not know that you can always substitute a potato pancake for fries, which I did. It comes w/sour cream & applesauce. The brisket dip was a large portion of brisket w/melted cheese that you dip in their french onion soup. It was served timely and hot. VERY good brisket. Server Patrick was phenominal!!! The bussers are also fantastic. They are always right behind the customer sanitizing the tables and also wiping down the condiments. Unfortunately Mgr. Eric stood against the wall the entire time watching a sports game on TV. The restaurant is very clean and has a fantastic deli to take food home from. I took home the matzoh ball soup and a slice of their banana dream cake. The matzoh ball soup unfortunately did not have any chix in it but was very good. The banana dream cake is fantastic! I also observerd server Dean doing a great job of checking in with customers. UPDATE: On a subsequent visit, Mgr. Eric was working the floor and I was there again for lunch time. I ordered the Rachel w/ an ice tea. It took my server Linda 15 min. before taking my order and she was not busy. She brought to my table a pitcher of tea. Surely she didn't expect me to pour my own tea. Oh yes, she did!!! Once I received my order, it was incorrect and another 25 min. went by before I received my correct meal, constently refilling my own glass of tea. She never checked in on me once after I had received my correct order and I had to flag her down once I finished to receive my check. NOT good! I was there a total of one hr. just for a sandwich at an off peak time.

Eat here often as our office just moved into the square. The service and food are wonderful, and the sweets are out of this world. We have them cater for us too and it is always a welcomed treat. Check them out and then stay and shop or dance the night away.

Pickins are slim when dining in and around The Villages, and that's the only reason why I can think that TooJay's has such an inflated almost 5 star status on Yelp. I mean, it's not terrible. The food is ok, the service is ok, the atmosphere is like a corporate chain diner. The place will provide sustenance for you, but the "wow" factor is certainly not there. I've had the matza ball soup, caesar salad, chicken potpie, and potato latkes. Pass on the latkes - they're not very good at all and definitely not latkes as I know them. Pass on the potpie - it's a big bowl of meh. The soup and salad were good enough.

Reuben Sammy with fries coleslaw and pickle 9.95. Not a bad deal.

The food was delicious, don't get me wrong, but the atmosphere was not very appetizing. The blinds had dust on them from probably opening day, and through no fault of the restaurants, our server was crying. I'm sure she was having a horrible day, her dog probably died or her b/f just broke her heart, but it certainly didn't help my experience. Please don't take this as me being cold, I'm simply sharing my thoughts. Go here for their baked goods, not for their food service.

After conquering finding a parking space nearby you will have an appetite for sure. If you are decisive, you will get your order pretty quick and will enjoy it. If you are indecisive, the large menu will only prolong your wait. Good food, good service.

If you are a fan of Jewish Deli's this ought to do the trick. A restaurant /deli storefront so you can order a vast assortment of salads, cold cuts, baked goods to eat there, or to bring home with you. Sometimes I am tempted to grab some rugalah or the black and whites on the way out the door. I love their Reuben sandwich, it's the tops. If you are in the villages I suggest you stop here for lunch, you won't be disappointed.

When the other Villages TooJay's had a line out the door, we decided to try this one. Well, even though it was past the lunch hour, it seems time doesn't matter to a clientele of mainly retirees. This TooJay's was packed, too. Fortunately, it took only about 15 minutes to get seated, at which time we ordered right away, having looked over the menus while in line. Despite the crowds, the kitchen managed to get our food out fairly promptly and even though everyone at the table had ordered dissimilar items, we were all well satisfied with our meals. The hot food was hot and tasty and the cold foods were prepared perfectly. In my party's judgment, this TooJay's is right on par with the other one in the Villages. And we would be happy to patronize either one in the future.

Best deli I have found in Florida. The Ultimate Beef Brisket is to die for! Moist and flavorful beyond my skills to describe. Just a touch of horseradish. Perfect. The wait staff are laid back and friendly. This location is well maintained and clean. Their menu has a huge selection in a wide range of foods. As you would expect at a deli, the sandwich is king, but there are salads galore, breakfast foods, and then there are the desserts. I have not had such rich, moist and delicious chocolate cake in a restaurant in many years.

I'm a huge TooJay's fan. I've been in a variety of them around Florida. The kitchen in this on truly sucks. There were 4 of us at dinner. The two people who had the pot roast couldn't finish their meals. The meat was that bad. The person who ordered the Pastrami/Corned beef sandwich said the bread was stale. I ordered the Cabbage rolls and the cabbage was unbelievably tough. The service was extremely good and the server offered to replace all our meals but we felt things wouldn't get any better. This kitchen has a serious problem, It's going to be a while until I can return to a TooJay's

Great menu! The loaded lahke (sp?) is huge, unique, fabulous potato pancakes with bacon tomato cheese sour cream scallions - I can't ever eat nachos now that I've had this. Real pastrami sandwich. Wow. I had the chicken noodle soup which was good but not quite wow. This is Great Food in a neat retirement village. Very comfortable. I'm coming back.

Outstanding Beef and Cabbage soup-of-the-day!!!!! Hubby had Chicken Noodle and really liked it too! Very pleasant decor! Our waitress Nicole was terrific...very attentive! Great hot pastrami!!! Good cole slaw, and pickle too! Tons of other things looked excellent too! We will be back- and often! The sweet treat case looked so good but we did not indulge-this time!

Was kinda dragged here. BTW, what is with that one reviewer giving it 5 stars yet dissing a variety of things? (shaking my head...) The menu is quite extensive but was hit and miss for our table. Some dishes, like potatoe pancakes, were stellar, while other dishes came out simply average. The salad dressings were stellar too. Oh, of course, the ones loaded with cheese, cream and taste that is. :-) Nice location with outdoor seating perfect to listen to the nightly music at the town square. They had plenty of wines I enjoy by the glass, so I'm sure we will return.

This is my favorite place to eat when I visit Lady Lake. I've had several wonderful meals here. I have to start out saying my 2 favorite things to eat here are the beef and cabbage soup and the rye bread is the best I've EVER eaten!!! All my meals here were delicious... Try the brisket! Today we had a lovely waitress... Coleen. She was very personable and took great care of us during our visit.

I LOVE LOVE LOVE New York style delis. We only have one in the Charlotte area and it's great but it's too far from my house to visit more often. So when I spotted this Toojay's right near my hotel, I knew that it had to be a dinner spot at least once this week. From the shape of the entrance and waiting area, it's obvious that the place gets very busy at times. Probably late breakfasts on the weekends. At dinner-time on a weekday, not so much. I was seated immediately. Despite a huge menu with everything from eggs to sandwiches to platters, I knew what I wanted almost immediately. Everything bagel with whitefish. Oh, and a cup of matzo ball soup. Just like momma used to make. Well, not really. My mom didn't make much matzo ball soup but I think you get the idea. The soup (which didn't photograph well) was excellent. Nice sized matzo ball (clearly hand-shaped) with a tasty broth and some veggies. Maybe a little salty. The bagel arrived next. Perfectly toasted for me, there was probably a pound of fish. I ate it all. Not a single bone was to be found. Yummy. Probably the least expensive dinner that I had all week.

I was not particularly impressed with this place. Food took forever to get (chicken salad and a Ruben) and the service was mediocre. I would probably go back if the service picked up a little more and didn't take forever to get a sandwich.

Toojay's lived up to the reviews, both for lunch and dinner. In our visit to The Villages, we had their Reuben for lunch and were blown away! Then days later, we dropped in for dinner, and again ate very well. My wife had "the best Shepherds Pie ever," while I enjoyed the Chicken Capri, which deliciously mixed artichoke hearts, capers, and mushrooms in a lemon/wine sauce! Excellent service, great food, at reasonable prices. What's not to like?

I eat here often, its just average, never better. The staff is never great, but the do show up for work. Its a bad version of a top notch deli. Chain feeling and lacks that "hey how have you been" feeling that comes with your neighbood north east or miami deli. Good menu selection with all of your typical items. I will be back as its the only game in town.

Had a great experience. Store was very clean and the service was really good. We had to wait for about 15-20 minutes to be seated but that was ok. They were super busy. We were seated and the server took our drink orders. He came back a few minutes later & took our orders. Wife ordered the Reuben sandwich and I ordered the tongue sandwich. Yeah I know! Tongue, yuk! It's actually the most tender beef you will ever eat. And very tasty. We waited about 15 minutes and the server came back and said someone stole the reuben! Hahaha! Yep! Stole it off the shelf. That's a first. He said another will be right up. Our meals were very delicious. We will return.

15 minutes after we sat down our waitress offered to take drink orders. We tried to order food, but she would have none of it. 5 minutes later, drinks arrived; she still refused to take food orders. 15 minutes later (now 35 minutes after sitting down), she finally took food orders. 25 minutes later our food - well, sort of - arrived. Waitress set the food tray down, grabbed a bowl on the tray and said "this is wrong" and ran back into the kitchen. We waited another two minutes before I decided to start giving everyone their food off the tray. Just as I placed the last plate, she returned and snarkily told me I was trying to steal her job. The bowl of soup she took back to the kitchen appeared identical to the one she left with, and she basically threw it in front of my 17 year old daughter, almost spilling it on her, then huffed off. The food was salty or completely tasteless with hot/cold spots throughout (think microwave). Perhaps I'm spoiled, living so close to a true Jewish deli (Corky & Lenny's in Beachwood, OH) and growing up on true Jewish/Kosher cooking, I don't know. All I can offer TooJay's is the suggestion they send a representative to a real Jewish deli to learn about real Jewish food and stop pretending they are anything even close to that. Avoid this place at all costs, unless you plan on carryout and you don't mind salty deli meats with slightly stale bakery items. . . I walked out an hour fifteen minutes after being seated, my two teenage daughters in hand, when the waitress basically told my father "You will just have to wait until I'm done" when he asked for the check; I thought it better my girls not see their 50+ year old mother deck some 60+ year old snarky, nasty, rude incompetent because she insulted their mother's 84 year old father.

Now, I'm really skeptical when it comes to delicatessans considering I worked at an extremely well respected and famous deli in Michigan, but this place was legit. We ordered loaded latkes to start off with and they're literally as delicious as they sound. Crispy, hot and not greasy at all.. Yum! For my meal I went with the brisket sandwich that is topped with caramelized onions and provolone served with a side of French onion soup for dipping. Anything that contains caramelized onions in their list of ingredients has me signing up almost immediately. The ONLY thing I wasn't a huge fan of was the dryness of the brisket and how bland it was. But it was nothing a little salt and pepper couldn't fix. Make sure you swap out the fries for beer battered onion rings! The sauce that comes with is divine!
